Starting Today, BKGN at FKG UGM & RSGM UGM Prof. Soedomo Offers Various Dental and Gum Services for All Groups

Yogyakarta, (1/12) — The National Dental Health Month (BKGN) 2025 was officially launched and once again became an important moment for the community to access dental and oral health services more easily, affordably, and even free of charge. As a national program implemented simultaneously across various Faculties of Dentistry and Dental and Oral Hospitals throughout Indonesia, today BKGN is present at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) and RSGM UGM Prof. Soedomo to expand service access and increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining dental and gum health from an early age.

The opening ceremony was conducted in a warm atmosphere, accompanied by information sessions for participants regarding the service flow they would receive—from registration and initial examinations to education provided by dentists, students, and healthcare staff. The atmosphere reflected high public enthusiasm, involving children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly eager to check their dental and gum health.

Range of Dental and Gum Services Available at BKGN 2025

One of the main attractions of BKGN 2025 is the comprehensive range of services offered, covering prevention, examination, and basic treatment. The services include:

1. Dental and Gum Health Examinations

Participants undergo thorough examinations by dentists to assess oral cavity conditions, including cavities, tartar buildup, gingivitis, and signs of gum disease.

2. Oral Hygiene Assessment and Education

Participants receive guidance on proper toothbrushing techniques, gum care, and daily habits to prevent dental damage. This education forms a key foundation in improving public health literacy.

3. Scaling or Tartar Removal

Scaling services are provided for participants who require plaque and calculus removal that cannot be eliminated through regular brushing. This service is highly popular due to its immediate benefits for gum health.

4. Simple Fillings

For mild to moderate cavities, filling services are available as a preventive measure to stop further damage.

5. Children’s Dental Health Consultations

For parents bringing children, BKGN offers children’s dental examinations, healthy diet education, and early detection of dental health problems during growth and development stages.

6. Oral Health Education for All Age Groups

Education is delivered through various media, including posters, videos, and live demonstrations. The materials are designed to be interactive and easily understood by participants from diverse backgrounds.

Why Are These Services Important?

Many people only visit a dentist when pain occurs. In fact, gum diseases—such as gingivitis and periodontitis—often develop slowly without noticeable early symptoms. If left untreated, these conditions can affect overall health, including increasing the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Through BKGN 2025, the community is encouraged to recognize that healthy teeth and gums are the foundation of overall body health. Routine check-ups and proper education are key to preventing more serious health issues in the future.

The Role of Universities and Health Workers in Creating Indonesia’s Smile

The implementation of BKGN is not only a form of community service but also a concrete realization of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the aspect of community engagement. Dentists, lecturers, students, and healthcare workers collaborate to provide the best possible services to the public.

Beyond direct clinical impact, this activity also builds positive interaction between the university and the community, while enhancing students’ skills in communication, service delivery, and health education.

BKGN 2025 Support for Indonesia’s SDGs

BKGN 2025 directly contributes to the achievement of Indonesia’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly by promoting more equitable access to healthcare services through increased dental examinations and education. The program also provides inclusive services for all groups, helping reduce disparities in access to basic healthcare. Moreover, collaboration among universities, healthcare professionals, professional organizations, and partners strengthens cross-sector cooperation, which is essential for sustainable public health development.

Thus, BKGN not only delivers direct health benefits to the community but also supports the achievement of national sustainable development agendas.

A Healthy Smile for the Future

Through its comprehensive and educational services, BKGN 2025 once again affirms its commitment to improving dental and gum health for the Indonesian population. The program provides a space for the community to check their oral health conditions while also serving as an important moment to educate future generations to be more attentive to personal hygiene and health.

By offering quality services for all groups, BKGN 2025 not only opens access to healthcare but also paves the way toward a healthier, more aware, and more smiling society.
