Batik is a globally recognized Indonesian cultural heritage, serving not only as a national identity but also as a reminder of the heroes’ struggle for independence. In this modern era, where globalization influences many aspects of life, preserving traditions such as wearing batik becomes a tangible way to honor the nation's noble values. To commemorate and appreciate this cultural heritage, lecturers from the Department of Dental Biomaterials (IBKG), Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), graced the 79th Independence Day ceremony in traditional kebaya attire.
On 17 August 2024, during the celebration of Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), FKG UGM lecturers, especially from the IBKG Department, elegantly wore kebaya and red-and-white jarik cloth to symbolize the spirit of national struggle.
Prof. Widowati, Prof. Siti Sunarintyas, drg. Dyah Irnawati, and drg. Mutiara Annisa attended the solemn ceremony led by UGM Rector, Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med., Ed., Sp.OG (K), Ph.D, alongside the entire academic community.
In addition to honoring the nation’s struggle, FKG UGM’s participation also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) by fostering a spirit of nationalism, and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by preserving culture through traditional attire.
