FKG UGM in Cochrane Workshop to Enhance Systematic Research Quality

To enhance the quality of research and clinical practice in dentistry, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), sent a delegation to participate in the Cochrane Workshop titled "Developing A Proposal for A Cochrane Review" held at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Setia Alam, Selangor, Malaysia from 24-27 April 2024.

The workshop aimed to develop research questions that align with the PICO framework (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) to formulate proposal titles that meet the Central Editorial Service Cochrane criteria. The event was attended by various experts in the field of dentistry, including a team from FKG UGM composed of drg. Margareta Rinastiti, M.Kes., Sp.KG. Subsp.KR(K)., Ph.D., drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MDSc., Ph.D., drg. Silviana Farrah Diba, Sp.RKG(K), and drg. Elastria Widita, M.Sc., Ph.D.

Following this workshop, the participants from FKG UGM plan to disseminate and share information regarding Systematic Review research methods with their peers and researchers at FKG UGM. The FKG UGM team also intends to establish a Systematic Review writing team at FKG UGM, collaborate on writing Systematic Reviews in dentistry with Cochrane Malaysia, and formulate proposals based on research questions that meet the Central Editorial Service Cochrane criteria 

From this workshop, the FKG UGM team has successfully drafted two titles worthy of further development into systematic review proposals to be submitted to Cochrane. The first title was crafted by drg. Silviana Farrah Diba and drg. Elastria Widita focuses on What is the effectiveness of dental implant placement to the patients with diabetes mellitus type II regarding masticatory function, bone level and periodontal health? kemudian, judul kedua disusun oleh drg. Margareta Rinastiti dan drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami dengan topik What is the efficacy of root canal disinfection in revascularization of immature necrotic premolars using non setting calcium hydroxide?

Currently, the FKG UGM team collaborates with partners from Malaysia to write a more comprehensive systematic review proposal. Additionally, it strengthens international collaboration to enhance the quality of research and clinical practice, positively impacting scientific knowledge and healthcare services in Indonesia
Through this training, FKG UGM aims to enhance healthcare professionals' competency in conducting systematic review research, thereby improving the quality of dental healthcare services in Indonesia. This workshop supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4, 8, and 17, and FKG UGM is committed to continuing its contribution to raising educational standards nationally and internationally
