Health Law Highlighted in FKG UGM Postgraduate Program

CSP00481

On 21 August, the Postgraduate Program of FKG UGM held a Studium Generale-themed "Welcoming the New Era of the Health Law: Opportunities and Preparations." This topic is pertinent as it prepares for the new era following the enactment of Law No. 17 of 2023 on health, which significantly impacts healthcare practice, including dental medicine.

The event, held at the University Club (UC) Hotel UGM, was attended by over 100 postgraduate students of FKG UGM. The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Laksono Trisnantoro, MSc, PhD, the Special Staff to the Indonesian Ministry of Health for the Resiliency of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Industry. The event was moderated by Dr. Drg. Sri Budi Barunawati, M.Kes., Sp.Pros.(K).

Attending virtually, the Dean of FKG UGM, Drg. Suryono, SH., MM., PhD, expressed his hope that FKG UGM could synergize with the Indonesian Ministry of Health in independently and sovereignly developing health in Indonesia, equalizing healthcare personnel, and providing access to health services for the Indonesian community. The Dean also emphasized the importance of product downstream programs, considering that 90% of raw materials are sourced from abroad.

Topics discussed included optimizing the relationship between residents and hospitals, changing the hospital basis from university-based to semi-hospital-based, and innovations addressing the equitable distribution of dental health human resources. The participants showed high enthusiasm during the discussion session that followed the presentations.

On the same occasion, Drg. M. Hirzi Nugraha, currently studying in the Specialist Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, shared his experience serving in remote areas of South Kalimantan. The limited facilities and human resources posed significant challenges in providing healthcare services in those areas.

It is hoped that through this event, all healthcare providers and the academic community of FKG UGM will understand the health law structured using the omnibus method, contribute to formulating derivative regulations, and synergize with other healthcare facility providers.

“We believe that FKG UGM will be able to synergize with the Indonesian Ministry of Health and become one of the backbones in providing equitable healthcare facilities, especially in dental and oral health, for the people across Indonesia through this Health Law,” concluded Prof. Laksono.
