11 October 2025 — A delegation from the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), consisting of the Dean Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources drg. Margareta Rinastiti, M.Kes., Sp.KG, Subsp.KR., Ph.D., along with heads of study programs and departmental representatives of FKG UGM, visited Lamandau Regency, Central Kalimantan. The visit was received directly by the Vice Regent of Lamandau, Abdul Hamid; the Regional Secretary of Lamandau Regency, Dr. Muhamad Irwansyah, S.P., M.P.; and the Director of Gusti Abdul Gani Regional General Hospital (RSUD), dr. Mardoni Setiawan, Sp.B, together with the hospital’s management team.
RSUD Gusti Abdul Gani is a government-developed hospital designated to become a referral hospital for surrounding regions within Central Kalimantan. The hospital is currently accredited as a Type C hospital and is preparing for advanced accreditation this year. In addition, Kalimantan is included as one of UGM’s focus regions for contributing to the Academic Health System (AHS), through which UGM is committed to equitable healthcare for the community. UGM has three regions under its AHSAcademic Health System) scheme: the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Central Java, and Kalimantan.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) includes provisions to open opportunities for cooperation schemes with all existing specialist study programs, thereby enabling new collaborations. The primary need of RSUD is an oral and maxillofacial surgery dental specialist. Technical discussions regarding the implementation of this cooperation are still ongoing. The MoU was signed by the Dean of FKG UGM and the Director of RSUD Gusti Abdul Gani. The MoU is valid for three years, from 11 October 2025 to 10 October 2028.

The initial step in implementing the MoU involves a formal request letter submitted by RSUD Abdul Gani and an exploratory cooperation meeting between the Lamandau Regency Government and FKG UGM, which was held on Thursday, 19 June 2025, at FKG UGM. This meeting discussed the request to assign Oral Surgery residents to RSUD Abdul Gani. On 13 October, an FKG UGM team consisting of all Heads of Clinical Study Programs and departmental representatives was scheduled to conduct a direct site visit to assess equipment and facility conditions at the hospital.
Fields with significant potential for collaboration with FKG UGM include the deployment of dental specialist residents, information on specialist placement in Lamandau Regency, placement of local residents in cooperative programs at FKG UGM, case triage under BPJS regulations, and flexibility in supporting infrastructure and facilities.
RSUD Abdul Gani is still in the process of constructing a new building, including inpatient facilities, to enhance existing services and to become a referral hospital. Following the facility inspection, support is needed to improve hospital infrastructure, particularly the addition of dental units, as currently the hospital has only one dental unit.
