The Dental Center Learning (DLC) building was designed as a certified green buildings , and its sustainability must be accompanied by green behavior, such as reduce-reuse-recycle. Green buildings include six elements: first, proper land use; second, energy efficiency and conservation; third, water conservation; fourth, material sourcing and cycles; fifth, health and indoor comfort; and sixth, environmental management. The energy-saving socialization at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), took place on 27 August 2025.
“FKG has a lot of green areas if we observe carefully. The faculty’s first efforts are plant conservation. Second, increasing the number of garden plants. Even if the land is fully covered with plants, we can still add more plants using other media,” explained Prof. Drg. Heni Susilowati, Ph.D., head and manager of the UGM Dental Learning Center (DLC).

Electricity consumption at FKG UGM is still quite high, especially for Air Conditioning (AC). This is not an easy issue, particularly since some laboratory equipment requires 24-hour AC operation. As much as possible, other sections should help by reducing AC usage duration during working hours. Regarding water use, FKG UGM has implemented rainwater harvesting as its operational water source, and so far, FKG UGM is the only one that has successfully applied it, explained Wulansari, SS, Head of the FKG UGM Administration Office.
