Visit of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) to FKG UGM

19 August 202 — The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) received a visit from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Negeri Padang (FK UNP). Present at the visit were Dr. dr. Rika Susanti, Sp.FM(K), Dean of FK UNP, together with Dr. drg. Lendrawati, MDSc, as part of the plan to establish a Dentistry Program at FK UNP. “The Faculty of Medicine UNP was officially established on 1 August 2023. So the first cohort of the Faculty of Medicine UNP was the 2023 cohort, all admitted through the independent selection path since the admissions for report card and exam-based selection had already ended. Therefore, we held our own selection in August, resulting in 25 students in 2023. Then, in 2024, we held the same selection process as the others, through SMPT exam and independent track, admitting 50 students. This year, we also accepted 50 students,” explained the Dean of FK UNP. This time, FK UNP was requested to establish a Dentistry Program. For the time being, the Dentistry Program will remain under the Faculty of Medicine, but in the long-term plan of UNP, it will be based in Bukittinggi. Some of the key points discussed included: Human Resources and the establishment of a Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM) for UNP.

Prof. drg. Suryono, SH., MM., Ph.D., Dean of FKG UGM, stated, “Coincidentally, FKG UGM is currently mentoring two faculties of dentistry: first, the Faculty of Dentistry of Petra Christian University in Surabaya; and second, the Faculty of Dentistry of Muhammadiyah University of Palangkaraya. We respect several potential challenges that Universitas Negeri Padang may face in establishing the Dentistry Program. The first is related to the hospital requirement, which is indeed a policy from the Ministry of Health directed to the Ministry of Higher Education, regarding hospital requirements that are now different from the past. Previously, it was mandatory to establish a dental and oral hospital.” The event was also attended by Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FKG UGM, Prof. drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D.; Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation of FKG UGM, drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MDSc., Ph.D.; Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources of FKG UGM, drg. Margareta Rinastiti, M.Kes., Sp.KG. Subsp.KR(K)., Ph.D.; as well as Head of Cooperation Unit, drg. Anrizandy Narwidina, MDSc., Sp.KGA., Ph.D. This visit marks an important milestone in the initiation of the Dentistry Program under the mentorship of FKG UGM.
