FGG UGM Oral Medicine resident, drg. Putri Ramelia Yain, won 3rd place in the category of The Most Interesting Case at the Oral Medicine Case Report and Student Presentation Award competition held at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, on 26 April 2025.
Oral Medicine in General! (OMG!) is a scientific seminar regularly organized by the Department of Oral Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Airlangga. The competition is part of the 4th National Seminar series Oral Medicine in General (OMG!). The event was attended by 21 oral medicine residents and 143 dental professional student teams from universities across Indonesia.
In her presentation, drg. Putri discussed the management of oral herpes patients caused by HSV type 2 with suspected allergies and hypertension. This is a rare case in the oral cavity, as HSV-2 typically affects the genital area. She noted that the patient was also suspected to have an allergic condition, which appeared similar to viral infection manifestations in the form of multiple oral ulcers.
drg. Putri prepared the case under the guidance of drg. Hendri Susanto, M.Kes, Ph.D. Sp. PM, along with other lecturers from the Department of Oral Medicine (IPM) FKG UGM, who provided direction and moral support throughout the preparation and competition process.
“I didn’t expect to win 3rd place because I am a first-year junior resident and this was my first time participating in such a competition. However, thanks to the guidance and support from the IPM lecturers, I received this valuable opportunity,” said drg. Putri.
drg. Hendri Susanto, her primary mentor, expressed his appreciation for drg. Putri’s dedication and hard work in preparing the case and facing the competition. “As a first-year resident, Putri has shown high enthusiasm for learning. She is open to feedback, actively participates in discussions, and manages the case with a sound scientific approach. This achievement is well-deserved and should inspire her to continue developing,” he said.
He added that this success reflects the synergy between students and lecturers in the Department of Oral Medicine FKG UGM. “At IPM, we always encourage students to be confident and to hone their academic skills,” he said.
