PUAPT UGM Audits Research Equipment at FKG UGM

The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), welcomed a visit from the UGM Center of Excellence for Academic and Applied Research (PUAPT UGM) on Tuesday, 18 March 2025. The visit was conducted as part of an audit by the Internal Supervisory Unit (SPI) UGM to assess the readiness of research facilities and equipment management within FKG UGM.

One of the main focuses of this audit was the Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging (LSCI) and 3D Bioprinting equipment. LSCI functions to monitor blood flow in tissues in real-time without invasive procedures, while 3D Bioprinting enables the printing of biological structures such as tissues and organs using bio-ink, offering great potential in the development of medical research and tissue engineering.

PUAPT emphasized that both tools are considered highly advanced and rare, with only a few institutions in Southeast Asia possessing them. However, their utilization has not yet reached optimal levels due to incomplete spare parts and the absence of an official equipment usage workshop.

In response, Dr. drg. Ananto Ali Alhasyimi, MDSc., Sp.Ort., Head of the Research Unit at FKG UGM, expressed his commitment to promptly address the procurement of the remaining components. "We will schedule a workshop and simultaneously conduct outreach regarding the equipment’s usage to researchers and the academic community," said Ananto.

Through this audit, FKG UGM hopes that its existing research facilities can be optimized soon to support the advancement of dental science and expand contributions to health research at both national and global levels.
