FKG UGM and FKG Universiti Malaya Discuss Potential Collaboration

In the era of globalization, cross-border collaboration is no longer just an option but a necessity to ensure the successful implementation of the Tri Dharma of higher education. International partnerships between universities play a crucial role in driving innovation, sharing expertise, and enhancing human resource quality.

This spirit of collaboration was the foundation for the Potential Collaborative Discussion between the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) and the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya (FKG UM) on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. The event was attended by faculty leaders and lecturers from both institutions, focusing on exploring potential areas of cooperation.

The Dean of FKG UGM, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., warmly welcomed the delegation from Universiti Malaya, represented by Prof. Dr. Firdaus bin Hariri. “It is an honor to engage in discussions with FKG UM. We hope that today’s dialogue will generate positive ideas for collaboration that will advance both institutions,” he stated. During the discussion, Dean Suryono expressed interest in partnerships in research, fellowship programs, and the development of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP).

Prof. Dr. Firdaus bin Hariri responded positively to the potential collaboration, emphasizing that this discussion could mark the beginning of a productive and sustainable partnership. “I am confident that our cooperation will bring significant benefits to both institutions,” he said.

drg. Trianna Wahyu Utami, MDS.c, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration, highlighted past cooperative efforts between the two faculties. In 2023, FKG Universiti Malaya sent students to participate in a summer course program at FKG UGM, and FKG UGM invited Dr. Jessica from FKG UM as a guest lecturer. These initiatives demonstrate both institutions' commitment to supporting internationally recognized academic programs. “Today’s meeting is essentially a continuation of the past collaborations between our faculties,” she explained.

At the conclusion of the event, Dean Suryono expressed his hope that the outcomes of this discussion would be implemented promptly. “If there are good plans for institutional advancement, we must execute them without delay,” he stated optimistically. The discussion reinforced the strong relationship between the two faculties and is expected to have a significant impact on the development of dental education and research at the international level.
