Establishing a new study program requires not only adequate facilities and resources but also a well-prepared and structured process. From defining the vision and mission to curriculum planning, every aspect must be carefully reviewed to ensure that the program meets both societal needs and national education standards. The key reference document in this process is the academic manuscript.
An Academic Manuscript is a scientific document that provides an in-depth study of various crucial aspects in the formulation of education policies or programs. This document includes philosophical, legal, and sociological foundations, which serve as the basis for planning the study program. In higher education, an academic manuscript ensures that the program being designed meets academic standards and remains relevant to societal and industry needs.
Recognizing the importance of this document, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), held an Academic Manuscript Review for the Dental Radiology Specialist Program. The event was attended by all lecturers of the Dentomaxillofacial Radiology Department (RDM) and was guided by Prof. drg. Regina Tandelilin, known as Prof. Nina, representing the Academic Commission of the UGM Faculty Senate to review the manuscript’s contents in detail.
The Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Drg. Rosa Amalia, emphasized that the establishment of this specialist program is one of the top priorities at FKG UGM. “The number of specialization programs in this field remains limited in Indonesia. We hope that this preparatory process follows the planned timeline,” she stated.
drg. Isti Suryani Rahayu, who is projected to become the Head of the Program, mentioned that the academic manuscript is 80% complete. “The manuscript prepared by the RDM department team needs a thorough review to ensure improvements,” she said.
During the review, Prof. Nina focused on aspects such as funding, curriculum, management, vision-mission, and human resources, ensuring that the manuscript meets regulatory requirements and is relevant to societal needs.
She stressed that the financial plan must ensure the program's sustainability without imposing excessive burdens on students. Additionally, she highlighted the need for transparency in budget allocations, particularly for infrastructure development and supporting facilities. “We must ensure that this plan is not only realistic but also sustainable in the long run,” she remarked.
With a strong commitment to developing specialist education, FKG UGM aims for the Dental Radiology Specialist Program to be successfully implemented soon, particularly in response to the shortage of dental specialist professionals in Indonesia.
