The Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), conducted a gum health examination and education session at TK ABA Karanganyar, Yogyakarta, on 10 October 2024. The event was attended by kindergarten students and teachers, as well as students from the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at FKG UGM.
The primary goal of this activity was to raise children's awareness of the importance of oral health, particularly gum health, from an early age. This initiative plays a crucial role in preventing oral health problems that could impact children in the future.
During the event, residents demonstrated proper tooth-brushing techniques and emphasized the importance of maintaining gum health. They adopted an interactive approach to make learning enjoyable. “We hope that through this activity, children can understand that taking care of their teeth and gums is an essential part of daily habits,” said Drg. Arif Rahman Setyawan.
Educational materials in the form of brochures and posters were also distributed to children and parents to reinforce the health messages conveyed. “Parents play a vital role in instilling this habit at home. Through this collaboration, we believe the impact will be greater,” he added.
This partnership highlights the importance of collaboration between educational and health institutions in promoting public health education. Teachers at TK ABA Karanganyar noted that the children were very enthusiastic and gained a better understanding of oral hygiene after attending the event.
This initiative reflects FKG UGM’s commitment to promoting children's dental health awareness and supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
