The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (BMM) Study Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), shone brightly by winning the Best Performance award at the Gala Dinner held during the National Working Meeting (RAKERNAS) and the Annual Scientific Meeting (PIT) of the Indonesian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (PABMI) in Bali on Saturday, 24 August 2024.
The BMM UGM program's performance, themed “Patih Gajah Mada,” captivated the audience with a presentation that combined choreography, dance, and a profound message about the unity of the archipelago.
The performance narrated the journey of Patih Gajah Mada in his mission to unify the archipelago during the golden era of the Majapahit Kingdom. In this presentation, drg. Astrodita Adyaseta portrayed Patih Gajah Mada, while drg. M. Huda Ichsantyarizqa Awang took on the role of King Hayam Wuruk.
Both were depicted as central figures leading the conquest of regions such as Bali, Papua, and Kutai, showcasing their strength and strategies in unifying various areas in the archipelago.
The performance presented by the BMM UGM program not only highlighted the narrative strength of history but was also packaged with thrilling and spectacular choreographed fight scenes.
The show included traditional dances and even a dangdut performance, adding a refreshing entertainment atmosphere. The climax of the performance was when the cast, including both faculty and residents of BMM UGM, carried the red-and-white flag and assembled a puzzle map of Indonesia. This symbolized the success in uniting the archipelago, reinforcing the important message of the show.
In addition to the performing arts, documentation of the alumni's community service from BMM UGM, which is spread across Indonesia, was also showcased. This serves as tangible evidence of the BMM program's contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
BMM UGM alumni collaborate with various partners to provide oral and maxillofacial healthcare services in various regions throughout Indonesia.
The performance from BMM UGM successfully captivated the audience until the end, with enthusiastic applause echoing in the gala hall, marking a significant appreciation for the show rich in messages of unity and dedication.
At the end of the event, BMM UGM was crowned the Best Performance winner, surpassing performances from various PPDGS BMM educational centers across Indonesia.
This achievement demonstrates the BMM UGM program's commitment to building quality education. Through this performance, the BMM program also contributes to supporting Goal 4 (Quality Education), where education is realized not only through academics but also through meaningful contributions in solidarity, service, and partnerships.
