The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (BMM) Study Program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), has made a remarkable achievement on the national stage. At the Scientific Competition held during the National Working Meeting (RAKERNAS) and the Annual Scientific Meeting (PIT) of the Indonesian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (PABMI) 2024 in Bali, residents of the BMM UGM program successfully brought home two championship titles.
The event, which took place from 22 to 24 August 2024, featured residents from six BMM educational centers across Indonesia, including participants who are general dentists with a special interest in oral surgery. The Scientific Competition at RAKERNAS and PIT PABMI is a prestigious national scientific competition.
This event serves as a platform for residents to present case reports they have worked on during their training. Furthermore, this competition is one of the requirements that residents must fulfill as part of the curriculum in the BMM UGM program.
In this competition, BMM UGM was represented by eight residents from various semesters, each presenting their case reports with full confidence. They not only delivered their presentations effectively but also answered questions from the judging panel accurately and clearly.
This demonstrates the quality of education in the BMM UGM program, which fosters the development of residents' competencies in both academic and clinical fields. This support aligns with the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 concerning quality education.
The announcement of winners at the end of the event marked a remarkable achievement for the BMM UGM program. In the Oral Presentation Case Report category, drg. Refitia Inayah Putri won 1st place with her case report titled “Does ORIF with Puppet Technique Offer a Better Result for Bilateral Condylar Fracture in Pediatrics?”
Meanwhile, in the Poster Presentation Case Report category, drg. Luthfir Rahman Nugraha Putra secured 3rd place with his case report titled “Infant Nasogastric Tube for Shielding to Prevent Injury of Mental Nerve during Mandibular Fracture Surgery: A Case Report.” Both residents were mentored by drg. Bramasto Purbo Sejati, Sp.B.M.M., Subsp.T.M.T.M.J.(K).
Scientific activities like the Scientific Competition not only provide a venue for residents to showcase their academic abilities but also represent a concrete step in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 concerning quality education.
The education provided in the BMM UGM program focuses on enhancing the competencies and quality of residents, which in turn contributes to improving healthcare services in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
By continually encouraging residents to participate in scientific competitions, the BMM UGM program not only plays a role in producing qualified professionals but also contributes to achieving broader global goals.
