The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (BMM) Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada Faculty of Dentistry (FKG UGM) organized a seminar and hands-on workshop titled “Management of Comminuted Mandible Fracture Using Reconstruction Plates.”. The event, held on Tuesday (30 July 2024), featured specialist doctors and residents from the BMM study program, focusing primarily on the management of comminuted mandible fractures using reconstruction plate techniques.
The seminar included several specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeons who also serve as lecturers and clinical educators at FKG UGM. They presented various topics related to mandible and maxilla fracture management, the principles of osteosynthesis, and the Open Reduction Internal Fixation (ORIF) technique used in condylar mandible fracture surgery.
Following the seminar session, the event continued with a hands-on workshop that provided residents the opportunity to practice using reconstruction plates and maxillofacial hardware. Residents were divided into several groups and received direct guidance from experts. With support from Osteomed, participants applied the theories they had learned in simulation situations, deepening their understanding of managing comminuted mandible fractures.
This seminar and hands-on workshop aimed not only to enhance technical competencies but also to support the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One related goal is Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, particularly in improving the quality of healthcare services through quality medical education.
The activity also supports Goal 4: Quality Education, where seminars and hands-on workshops like this are part of the continuous learning process for healthcare professionals.
With positive feedback from participants, the BMM Study Program at FKG UGM plans to continue hosting similar activities as part of their commitment to improving the quality of education and healthcare services in Indonesia. It is hoped that these activities will have a broader impact, not only on the technical abilities of residents but also on the overall improvement of oral and maxillofacial surgical healthcare services.
