Health Promotion on Campus

In an effort to promote health and wellness among the academic community, the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) has introduced an innovative program called “Happy Dental Exercise.”

This initiative was launched to encourage staff and lecturers not only to focus on their work but also to take time for stretching and exercising, especially amid the busyness that often sidelines health.

The exercise sessions are held every weekday at 2:30 PM, a time that often coincides with a post-lunch energy dip.

“We recognize that many staff members are busy with their daily routines, often overlooking the importance of exercising. With Happy Dental Exercise, we hope everyone can find a moment to engage in physical activity,” said Firda Cahya from the Health Promotion Team at FKG UGM.

Happy Dental Exercise consists of a series of simple stretching movements that can be performed in just three minutes.

“Demonstration videos of these exercises have been uploaded to YouTube. We invite all staff members to watch and practice them during work hours,” Firda added.

By learning these movements, staff can stretch while standing or sitting, allowing everyone to participate without being hindered by their work environment.

This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being). By providing equal opportunities for all staff to engage in physical activities, FKG UGM contributes to a more inclusive and healthier work environment.

Moreover, increasing energy through physical activity can help staff remain focused and productive throughout the day.

“Through this program, we aim to create a culture of health and wellness within FKG UGM. We believe that by taking care of our physical health, we also take care of our mental health and work productivity,” Firda stated.

By introducing Happy Dental Exercise, FKG UGM is committed to fostering a work environment that is not only productive but also supportive of the health and well-being of all its members.

It is hoped that this initiative will encourage more staff to engage and utilize available resources, enabling them to serve as role models for students and the wider community.

With this step, FKG UGM is not only contributing to individual health but also striving to create a broader positive impact in achieving sustainable development goals, especially in establishing a healthy and competitive workplace.
