The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada took part in the Postgraduate Research Day 2024 held at the School of Dental Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), on 2-3 July 2024. This event served as a key gathering for postgraduate students from various health faculties both domestically and internationally, providing a platform not only for strengthening international networks but also for deepening understanding of the latest research developments in Asia.
Postgraduate Research Day 2024 offered opportunities for research presentations and served as a platform for evaluating the progress of Ph.D. and master’s students in their studies and research. Dr. Azlina, Dean and Chair of PGRD, emphasized the importance of publication quality and impact factor, particularly for Scopus-indexed journals, which are mandatory for students.
The two-day event featured various activities, including a 3-minute pitch competition in which Ph.D. and master’s students from multiple Asian universities participated. In this competition, UGM Faculty of Dentistry student Drg. Lastry Ruth Maya TM Padang M.DSc. won a consolation prize in the Basic Science category.
In addition to the competition, the event included guest lectures by prominent lecturers, such as Drg. Sri Kuswandari M.S. Sp.KGA.(K) Ph.D., who discussed "Impact of Space Maintainers on Oral Development and Growth / Interceptive Orthodontics," and Drg. Ruslin M.Kes. Ph.D., who presented on “Calcium Phosphate-based Apatite Cement in Dentistry.”
Participants also had the opportunity to join a laboratory tour at the USM campus to view advanced research facilities, including sterile labs for cell culture, DNA and RNA processing equipment, and dental material labs.
