FKG UGM Celebrates UGM’s 75th Anniversary and 15th Lustrum

On Friday, 12 July, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a series of events to celebrate its 75th anniversary and 15th lustrum at the Balairung UGM, officially opened by UGM Rector, Prof. Dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med. Ed., Sp. OG (K)., Ph.D.

In his speech, the Rector highlighted that UGM’s 75 years of existence reflect its long journey in developing outstanding and competitive human resources to contribute to national development. He emphasized UGM's commitment to advancing knowledge while instilling values of nationalism, patriotism, and justice. According to him, UGM serves as a place for nurturing future leaders and nation builders.

The theme of this year’s Dies Natalis, “Strengthening Nationalism and Building Civilization,” reflects UGM’s commitment to upholding unity and fostering values of respecting differences and diversity. “It is crucial for UGM to continue embodying national spirit and ethics to create an inclusive and humane society,” concluded Prof. Ova.

Dr. Arie Sujito, M.Si., Chair of the UGM 75th Dies Natalis Committee, announced that the celebration would feature a variety of activities including social events, sports, seminars, workshops , awards for outstanding individuals, nitilaku (traditional performance), alumni gatherings, and the main anniversary celebration. 

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives from all faculties, schools, units, and study centers at UGM. The event began with a healthy exercise session, followed by a symbolic opening where representatives from the education staff, students, lecturers, leadership, and alumni united four pieces of a 15th Lustrum logo puzzle. The festivities continued with sack races, wooden sandal races, and door prize giveaways. doorprize.

It is hoped that these activities will inspire creativity and moral responsibility in nation-building, aligning with the values outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goals 3, (Good Health and Well-Being), 4 (Quality Education), 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnership For The Goals).
