121 Undergraduate Dentistry Students & 8 Dental Hygiene Students of FKG UGM Declared Graduates at the January 2026 Yudisium

The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) once again held its yudisium (academic graduation confirmation ceremony) in January 2026, officially graduating 121 Undergraduate Dentistry (PDG) students and 8 students from the Dental Hygiene Study Program (PSHG). This academic procession was not merely an administrative marker of graduation, but also a space for institutional reflection on graduate quality, the challenges of professional education, and students’ mental readiness to enter a more complex clinical phase.

In the official forum, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FKG UGM, Prof. Dr. drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., affirmed that all participants graduated with a cumulative GPA above 3.00, with no student falling below academic quality standards. The highest GPA recorded was 3.98, achieved by Della Purnama—an achievement reflecting both the effectiveness of the learning process and students’ academic consistency.

However, the primary message delivered during this yudisium went beyond numbers and statistical accomplishments. The faculty openly reminded graduates that the real challenges begin after graduation, particularly when entering professional education and engaging directly in clinical practice with patients.

“After completing your undergraduate degree and entering the professional program, you are not new students. The knowledge you have gained must not disappear when you face patients,” emphasized one academic leader. This statement reflects the institution’s concern about the phenomenon of academic disconnect—where theoretical understanding weakens as students transition into clinical settings.

Beyond academic competence, the faculty explicitly highlighted emotional and spiritual intelligence as essential foundations for future dentists. Academic pressure, supervisory dynamics, and the realities of healthcare delivery are frequently cited as factors contributing to student mental fatigue. Therefore, the faculty has opened communication and mentoring channels as part of its institutional responsibility.

“We open our doors for discussion—not only about academics, but also personal matters that affect your studies,” stated Dr. drg. Alma Linggar Jonarta, M.Kes. This reflects an educational approach that increasingly positions student mental health as a strategic issue rather than merely an individual concern.

Representing the undergraduate dentistry students, Della Purnama expressed appreciation for the guidance received throughout her studies. She emphasized that the faculty served not only as an academic learning space but also as a foundation for character development and professional ethics. The graduates expressed readiness to apply their knowledge and uphold the reputation of their alma mater in their professional education and future practice.

The January 2026 yudisium illustrates the Faculty of Dentistry’s consistency in maintaining graduation standards, while sending a strong signal that future dentists’ competence cannot be measured solely by GPA, but also by intellectual integrity, mental resilience, and the ability to work within healthcare teams.

With a goal of ensuring complete professional graduation, the faculty reaffirmed its commitment to guiding students through to completion—without compromising quality, ethics, and the social responsibility of the dental profession amid increasingly complex healthcare challenges.
