12 FKG UGM Students Take National Dental Competency Examination (UKMP2DG)

Earning the title of dentist requires a long and rigorous educational process. Students must pass a competency examination that determines their eligibility to serve the community as professional dentists. One of the most crucial stages is the National Competency Examination for Dental Profession Students (UKMP2DG).

UKMP2DG is a mandatory national examination for dental profession students, designed to measure cognitive knowledge and clinical skills before they are officially recognized as dentists. One of the test formats is the Computer Based Test (CBT), developed to comprehensively assess theoretical understanding and clinical application.

In this period (24/5), a total of 12 students from the Faculty of Dentistry UGM took the examination. The activity was also supervised by external examiners to ensure that the process adhered to established standard procedures.

Dyana Rakhmasari Kusumaningsih, S.E., M.Ec.Dev., Head of the Academic and Student Affairs Working Group at FKG UGM, stated that before facing the exam, students underwent three weeks of intensive preparatory sessions. During this period, they received direct guidance from FKG UGM lecturers, who helped review materials and strategies for answering questions.

“Students received mentoring from FKG UGM lecturers covering both theoretical and clinical aspects of the examination,” Dyana explained.

After going through structured learning and mentoring phases, dental profession students are expected to complete their education within a maximum of three years. This competency test serves as the final gateway before they obtain the professional dentist certificate, which is a main requirement for receiving the Registration Certificate (STR) from the Indonesian Medical Council.

Starting this period, the government introduced a new regulation: dentist professional certificate numbers are now issued centrally by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology through the National Diploma and Professional Certificate Numbering Portal (PISN) (effective 7/5). This policy aims to ensure accuracy and integrity in the national numbering system for professional certificates.

With strong academic preparation, intensive mentoring, and a transparent national evaluation system, graduates of the dental profession program are expected to make meaningful contributions to improving the quality of oral and dental healthcare services in society.
