Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

 

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery focuses on the diagnosis, surgical, and related treatment of diseases, injuries, and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the head, mouth, teeth, gums, jaws, and neck. Oral surgery involves, but is not limited to: wisdom teeth removal, apicoectomy, TMJ disorder, facial trauma, corrective jaw surgery, oral pathology, dental implants, osseous tissue surgery, anesthesia and bone grafts.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is an exciting and challenging specialty of dentistry that combines dental, medical, and surgical knowledge and skills. The specialty aims to contributeto the improvement of the general health and quality of life of the public as well as advancement achievement  of expected, including collaboration with other scientist to provide multi-disciplinary and conduct multi-disciplinary research.

The scope of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery: dentoalveolar surgery, management of head and neck infections, management of maxillofacial trauma (soft and hard tissues, management of cyst and benign tumor of the mouth and jaws, orthognatic surgery, preprostethic and implant surgery, management of TMJ pathology, salivary gland surgery, maxillary sinus surgery, cleftlip and palate surgery, management to malignant tumors of maxillofacial regions, management of orofacial pains.

The programs of oral and maxillofacial surgery in FKG UGM are dental implants, dentoalveolar surgery, and cleft lip surgery with local anaesthesia.
