The improvement of disability facilities at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), is a strategic step towards creating a fair and inclusive learning environment. This initiative not only meets normative standards but also reflects a commitment to diversity and human rights.
The addition of disability-friendly facilities, such as ramps, elevators, accessible restrooms, as well as supporting technologies like hearing aids and learning materials in accessible formats, allows students, faculty, and staff with special needs to fully participate in all aspects of campus life.
As a result, individuals with disabilities no longer face barriers such as difficulties with mobility, access to information, or participation in campus activities.
The enhancement of disability facilities not only increases opportunities for individuals with disabilities to succeed but also raises awareness and understanding within the entire campus community about the importance of inclusion.
This effort fosters a more empathetic and supportive environment where everyone is valued and encouraged to thrive according to their abilities. Additionally, it is driven by the requirement to obtain functional eligibility certification (SLF) for every building at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
An inclusive campus will produce graduates who are better prepared to face a diverse workforce and society. Improving disability facilities is an investment in creating a fairer learning environment where everyone can develop their full potential without barriers.
Thus, the addition of disability facilities at FKG UGM is a crucial step in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to Quality Education (Goal 4), Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10), as well as Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (Goal 16).
