Thursday, 24 October 2024 – The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) held a ceremony for the graduation of postgraduate students from the Doctoral, Master's, and Specialist programs. The ceremony took place at the Margono Building of FKG UGM, following the graduation event at Graha Sabha Pramana earlier that morning. This farewell event was particularly special as it was attended by three graduates from the Doctoral program in Dental Science: Dr. drg. Rochman Mujayanto, Sp. PM, and two female graduates, Dr. drg. Rizki Amalina, MSc, and Dr. drg. Friska Ani Rahman, MDSc, who graduated with Cum Laude honors, completing their studies in 3 years and 10 months.
This graduation marked the completion of nearly four years of study, emphasizing the importance of education in enhancing professionalism and expertise. The graduates not only succeeded academically but also made significant contributions to the field of dentistry, in line with efforts to improve quality education (SDG Goal 4) and better access to health care (SDG Goal 3).
Dr. Rochman Mujayanto's dissertation, titled “Clinical Perspective on the Role of Linear Gingival Erythema and Total Lymphocyte Count as Predictors of Immunodeficiency Status in People with HIV,” contributes to better health (SDG Goal 3). His research highlights the important link between oral health and systemic diseases, showing the need for affordable medications and care for vulnerable populations.
Dr. Rizki Amalina shared her views on the importance of education in the health sector. “Education is the foundation for progress. As dental professionals, we have a responsibility to ensure that our patients receive the best care, which also includes advocating for affordable medications and treatments,” she said. Her commitment to education for sustainability reflects the broader goals of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The doctoral graduates are also prepared to return to the educational institutions where they have been working to contribute significantly to the field of dentistry by teaching students and developing research conducted during their doctoral studies. They hope to translate their research into practical applications that will benefit the community, thus achieving optimal oral health quality for all.
Dr. Friska Ani Rahman emphasized the role of research in improving dental practice. “Our research is not just for academic purposes; it is meant to be applied in real-world settings to improve patient care and health outcomes,” she explained. This commitment aligns with the SDGs, especially in ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.
The graduation ceremony was attended by lecturers, family, and friends, all celebrating the remarkable achievements of the graduates. The event served as a reminder of the important role education plays in shaping future leaders in the health sector and the importance of continuous learning and research in the pursuit of excellence.
As the graduates embark on their professional journeys, they carry values of dedication, innovation, and a commitment to improving access to and the quality of healthcare. Their achievements not only reflect personal success but also contribute to the broader goals of sustainable development in health and education.
