In an effort to enhance education and research quality in prosthodontics, the Department of Prosthodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Graduate School of Medical Dental Sciences, Tokyo Medical Dental University (TMDU) on 9 July 2024.
The visit aimed to directly learn about advancements in digital dentistry technology at TMDU, one of Japan's leading universities. The FKG UGM delegation had the opportunity to discuss with Prof. Manabu Kanazawa, an expert in digital dentistry, and tour laboratories equipped with the latest technology.
Prof. Manabu Kanazawa warmly welcomed the FKG UGM delegation. “We are very open to collaborating with FKG UGM. There is significant potential for future cooperation, especially in research and the development of new technologies in prosthodontics,” he said.
One of the key outcomes of this benchmarking visit was the agreement to establish collaboration in research and visiting professor programs. Both institutions agreed to support each other in advancing research in the field of prosthodontics.
“We were impressed with the advancements in digital dentistry technology at TMDU,” said drg. Fadyl. “The knowledge and experience gained from this visit will be invaluable in developing dental healthcare services in Indonesia.”
TMDU is a pioneer in applying 3D printing technology in dentistry. The university boasts laboratories equipped with various types of 3D printers used to create dental models. Through intensive research and development, TMDU has successfully created numerous innovations using 3D printing technology to enhance the quality of dental care.
