At the end of the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) conducted a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the learning process for the Periodontics Specialist Program.
This evaluation aimed to assess the effectiveness of the learning process, with full participation from students of the Periodontics Specialist Program.
The evaluation results were published online and have become a guide for improving the quality of education in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4: Quality Education.
The evaluation was conducted through an online form filled out by students. They rated various aspects of the learning process using five response options: strongly agree, agree, somewhat disagree, disagree, and don't know.
Based on the results, the majority of students felt that the learning process was effective.
"The learning experience this semester has been positive and conducive, meeting our expectations," said one student.
This evaluation reflects FKG UGM's efforts to maintain high standards of education.
In terms of facilities, students assessed the learning environment as highly supportive and well-suited to their academic needs, contributing positively to a conducive learning atmosphere.
Additionally, students felt that they had sufficient time for independent study, which they deemed essential for reinforcing their understanding of the material.
Active participation in class activities was highlighted as a positive aspect by the students. They felt they had ample space for discussion and engagement during learning sessions.
Moreover, lecturers were praised for being responsive to students' feedback and questions, particularly those related to assessment results.
"The lecturers are always open to discussions and provide clear feedback, helping us understand what areas need improvement," said another student.
Despite the generally positive feedback, some constructive suggestions were raised by students. They proposed having introductory lectures before practical sessions and adding more practical sessions focused on basic periodontal surgery techniques.
These suggestions aim to enhance students' understanding of the material and improve their technical skills, which are crucial for real-world practice.
Some students also recommended improving the practical models, particularly for sinus lifting, to make them more realistic and clinically relevant. Additionally, they suggested that the program subscribe to high-quality academic journals to support learning.
These suggestions align with the spirit of the SDGs to ensure inclusive and quality education with broader access to educational resources.
Despite these notes, the Periodontics Program expressed its appreciation to all students who actively participated in the evaluation process.
This feedback is an essential foundation for FKG UGM to continuously improve and enhance the quality of education in the future.
The complete evaluation results can be accessed via the following online link: Reports on Periodontics Program Odd Semester 2023/2024.
Thus, the monitoring and evaluation process serves not only as a measure of academic performance but also as a foundation for ongoing improvements.
This commitment is in line with FKG UGM's efforts to continuously support the achievement of quality education, which can positively impact all stakeholders, especially the students.
