On Tuesday (22/08/2023), the Integrated Research Laboratory conducted a Stem Cell demonstration led by PT Abirama. This workshop introduced the method of isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Additionally, it showcased the isolation of natural killer (NK) cells using the principle of immunomagnetic separation.
Stem cell technology is an ever-evolving topic of discussion. Over time, the advancements in this area, which involve cell biologists, geneticists, and clinicians, have been significant. As healthcare professionals, the term "stem cell" is undoubtedly familiar, and several faculty members of FKG UGM have actively participated in stem cell technology research.
With this breakthrough, we hope to move closer to the ultimate goal of stem cell technology, which is to provide practical solutions for various diseases, both malignant and non-malignant.
