Visit of Dr. Sachiko Takehara from Niigata University Strengthens Dental Health Research Collaboration at FKG UGM

Yogyakarta, 14-18 October 2024 – The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) welcomed Dr. Sachiko Takehara, Associate Professor from the Division of Preventive Dentistry, Niigata University, Japan. The visit aimed to strengthen the ongoing two-year research collaboration between Niigata University and the Department of Dental Health and Education (IKGP) as well as the Department of Community Dental Health (IKG) at FKG UGM. 

During her visit, Dr. Takehara collaborated with Drg. Lisdrianto Hanindriyo MPH., Ph.D., and the team at FKG UGM, discussing the continuation of research in the field of preventive dental health. Activities included site visits to several educational institutions such as SDN Kyai Mojo, TK Negeri 5, and TK Negeri Pembina, to observe ongoing research activities related to oral health among children. 

As part of the visit, Dr. Takehara also delivered lectures at the Dental Hygiene Study Program (PSHG) at FKG UGM, focusing on Oral Health Policy in Japan, discussing dental health policies in Japan. Additionally, a special lecture was held for students of the Master’s Program in Dental Science (IKG), covering the topic Oral Health Promotion in Japanese Elderly Population, which focused on oral health promotion among the elderly in Japan. 

Dr. Takehara’s visit aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, emphasizing the importance of partnerships to achieve sustainable development objectives.
