164 Students Participate in Summer Course at FKG UGM

A total of 164 students are participating in the summer course program at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM). The students, hailing from 10 dental faculties across ASEAN, will engage in learning and discussions about the field of dentistry over seven days, from 15 to 21 July 2024.

Participating institutions include Universiti Malaya (Malaysia), Universiti Sains Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia, Khon Kaen University (Thailand), Thammasat University (Thailand), Universiti Brunei Darussalam, University of the Philippines, Centro Escolar University (Philippines), Universiti Yangon Mandalay (Myanmar), and Tokushima University (Japan).

This year’s theme is "Innovation in Digital Dentistry for Inclusive Oral Health: Focusing on Special Needs Patients." The theme emphasizes the importance of inclusive services in clinical dentistry.

In his address, Dean of FKG UGM, Prof. drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., expressed gratitude to international and internal collaborators, as well as the committee and participants of the International Dental Summer Course for their dedication and hard work.

“This year, we have speakers from various countries and 164 participants from around the world. The activities we have prepared include classroom lectures, community service, faculty and university tours, and sightseeing in Yogyakarta,” said Suryono.

Through this course, participants are expected to enhance their knowledge and skills in providing dental care for patients with special needs. At the end of the course, participants will have the opportunity to present creative ideas on intelligent digital technology needed for applying psychomotor skills in clinical settings for special needs communities.

After the learning sessions, an evaluation will be conducted for all participants through group projects on digital technology concepts for special needs communities, covering medical and psychological perspectives.

The Summer Course supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
