THE RESEARCH UNIT OF FACULTY OF DENTISTRY, GADJAH MADA UNIVERSITY
Revisi 5 (Hal. 1 & 2) – Brosur LRT FKG UGM – Trifold – CMYK – 2022
One point of the vision of Universitas Gadjah Mada is to be world class research university. Therefore, as part of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Faculty of Dentistry must participate and doing active role in scientific research and publication. At the faculty level the activities of research are managed by the Vice Dean for Research, Community service and Cooperation or Vice Dean II, assisted by Research Unit.
The obligations of research Unit are to assist the Vice Dean II in managing the research of staff which are financially supported by faculty and managing the Research Laboratory in Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada. To support the staff and students’ research activities, since 2004 the Laboratory of Integrated Research has been established. The Laboratory is located in the north wing of the 5th floor of Faculty Dentistry – OECF building, equipped by advanced dental research instruments. The development of the laboratory was financially supported by the PIU-OECF project loan from Japan Government.
However, after the advanced dental research instruments have been provided, some problems were appeared. There are not enough skilled human resources for running the instruments optimally, such as technicians and technical manager. All of the instruments have not been used optimally yet. The other problems has to be faced is not enough maintenance fund.
Fortunately, in 2013 the Integrated Research Laboratory has opportunity getting grant for laboratory accreditation of SNI ISO/IEC 17025-2008 from the BOPTN fund 2013 affiliated with the Gadjah Mada University Integrated Laboratory of Research and Experiment (LPPT UGM). With this affiliated grant we hope be able to gradually improve the technicians’ competency, experiment methods, the management of materials and instruments, and the environment of laboratory, toward the world class laboratory standard, ISO 17025-2005. The lab is currently in the process of expanding the range of accredited testing parameters, including microhardness tests, Streptococcus mutans and Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm assay. These tests are in the accreditation process following the ISO 17025-2017 standard since 2019, undergoing a remote assessment on 5-7 October 2020 and are currently at the follow-up stage of non-conformity findings until March 2021.
The Faculty of dentistry Integrated Research Laboratory provide research facilities for academic staffs, undergraduate and graduate students from inside and outside of Faculty of dentistry, organizing course of standard research methods etc. The research facilities which are available in the Integrated Research Laboratory, such as dental materials experiment test, genetic and protein analysis, cell culture, binocular-, trinocular-, inverted-, stereo-, fluorescence-microscopy, spectrophotometry, physico-mechanical study of dental and non-dental materials. Several new laboratory devices have been added, including real-time PCR machine, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), Malvern Zetasizer nano (0.3 – 10,000 nm), Thermo Scientific ™ Multiskan Sky Microplate Spectrophotometer, gel doc uv transilluminator, material surface roughness test device, and others.
VISION AND MISSION
Referred from the Faculty of Dentistry vision, being the world class research faculty, the Integrated Research Laboratory as a part of the Faculty of Dentistry, has to support in realizing the vision.
Vision
Being an excellent laboratory in the dental research, national and international distinguishable and capable for global competition.
Mision
