The Faculty of Dentistry (FKG UGM) collaborated with the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK), and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology at Universitas Gadjah Mada to conduct community service activities in Sariharjo Village on Sunday, 23 June 2024. The activities included education on dental avulsion emergencies and mass circumcision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
drg. Yosaphat Bayu Rosanto, MDSc., Sp.BMM(K), Head of the Community Service Unit at FKG UGM, stated that this collaboration represents UGM's commitment as an educational institution to engage with local communities by providing education and healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dental avulsion is a condition where a tooth is completely dislodged from its socket due to direct or indirect trauma. Avulsion of permanent teeth can generally occur due to falls, fights, sports injuries, traffic accidents, and violence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The educational activities were conducted by lecturers and residents from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Study Program. These activities included initial steps to take when dental avulsion occurs, the importance of proper tooth storage, and the ideal time to seek professional care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A dislodged tooth must be properly stored to slow down the death of cells in the periodontal ligament of the root. \u201cMedia that can be used include isotonic solutions such as milk, saline, or saliva,\u201d said Yosaphat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, mass circumcision was performed as a form of direct healthcare service to\nthe community by the FK-KMK UGM team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
UGM's visit to Sariharjo Village received a positive response from local residents. Agus, a local resident, mentioned that he did not previously know how to handle a dislodged tooth. \u201cThe community here feels helped by the UGM team\u2019s visit because they came to our village to provide dental health education and circumcision services for children,\u201d Agus said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This collaboration involved various study programs from FK-KMK UGM, including Pediatric Surgery, Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, Oncology Surgery, Digestive Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Dentistry, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, as well as the Faculty of Agricultural Technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outcomes of this activity are expected to strengthen community preparedness in facing medical emergencies, in line with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and number 17 (Partnerships to Achieve the Goal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This activity is also expected to open opportunities for similar events in the future, with\nmore diverse content and a larger number of participants. With active involvement and synergy between the community and healthcare professionals, this activity has positively contributed to raising health awareness in Sariharjo Village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
