The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) was founded with the mission to improve the dental and oral health of the Indonesian population through excellent education, impactful research, and community service. To actualize this vision, FKG UGM continuously fosters sustainable innovation, one of which was establishing the Dental Learning Center (DLC) in 2021. To this day, efforts to optimize the use of the DLC as a facility to support activities that enhance the quality of research by the academic community and commercialize the research results of faculty, students, and staff are ongoing.<\/p>\n
As part of the 76th Anniversary celebrations, FKG UGM organized an exhibition and discussion forum on laboratory tool innovations by the academic community on Friday (26\/04). Titled \"Laboratory-based Innovation: Inventor, Collaborator, and User Forum,\" this event showcased innovative tools created by faculty and laboratory staff registered for Intellectual Property Rights (HAKI) or patents but require further development for practical use and production. One such tool is a healthcare device resulting from the collaboration between FKG UGM and Politeknik ATMI Surakarta.<\/p>\n
The event, attended by inventors\/researchers, faculty, students, and industry partners, aimed to increase recognition of the research facilities at DLC FKG UGM and to promote innovation and development of laboratory tools by the FKG UGM community through a network of laboratories, researchers, and producers. Some tools exhibited included the Life Jet and Contact Angle Measurement. The Life Jet functions to suction saliva during dental treatments. The Contact Angle Measurement is an optical testing device used to measure elements related to shape tolerance, such as position, concentricity, profile, roundness, straightness, size, etc.<\/p>\n
The event began with a welcome address by the Dean of FKG UGM, Prof. Drg. Suryono, S.H., M.M., Ph.D., followed by presentations of products by inventors and developers, discussions with the audience, and concluded with a site visit interaction forum. Prof. Suryono expressed his appreciation for the exhibition and innovation discussion in his address. \u201cThis event proves that the Dental Learning Center's facilities are being used optimally,\u201d he said. He also expressed his hope that the research and innovations of the academic community could be commercialized. \u201cFKG UGM has many innovation potentials that can be commercialized. Indeed, research results should not stop at publications but should also be commercialized to have a broad impact and strengthen Indonesia's independence,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Additionally, he encouraged the establishment of partnerships to optimize the commercialization of research and innovations. \u201cToday, we cannot rely on a single discipline; there must be multidisciplinary collaboration to present innovations that contribute to the development of the nation and country,\u201d he concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n It is hoped that through this event, the academic community's commercialization of research and innovations can be accelerated so that many can feel their impact and realize the noble mission of FKG UGM. By providing quality education, excellent research, and community service, the dental and oral health of the community can be improved, thereby enhancing the quality of life and achieving the vision of a poverty-free Indonesia.
