The speaker explained that each pathway has distinct characteristics and opportunities, making it important for students to understand the appropriate strategies as early as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When asked about the minimum admission scores required for specific study programmes, she gave a straightforward response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"If I were you, I would focus on studying as hard as possible and achieving the highest scores you can. The competition changes every year, and the required scores may go up or down. What matters most is giving your very best.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her advice served as a reminder that many prospective students become overly focused on admission cut-off scores, whereas the most important factors are thorough preparation and the ability to compete with other applicants in the same admission cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Balancing Parents' Expectations and Students' Interests Remains a Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n During the discussion session, participants raised an issue that closely reflects the realities of education in Indonesia: the difference between students' aspirations and their parents' expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rina Norfida, Principal of SMA IT Al Azhar Jambi, explained that the school frequently encounters situations where students demonstrate strengths in particular fields, yet their parents insist on choosing programmes perceived to be more prestigious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"Parents have a very strong influence. Sometimes a student's academic performance simply does not meet the requirements for medical school, yet their parents continue to insist. As a result, the student is unsuccessful, and the school also feels the burden,\" she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In response, the UGM representative emphasised the importance of recognising each student's abilities and interests as the primary basis for choosing a field of study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"In my opinion, the most important consideration is the student's own ability. There are now many different admission pathways. What matters is finding a field that genuinely matches their interests and potential.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n Higher Education Is No Longer Solely About Prestige<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The discussion reflected a shift in perspectives on higher education. Whereas success was once measured primarily by admission to a particular programme, the focus is increasingly moving towards aligning one's passion, competencies, and long-term personal development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The speaker also shared her own experience when choosing a university major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"I didn't choose medicine because I felt it wasn't the right field for me. Instead, I pursued a discipline that matched my interests and abilities. As a result, my learning experience became much more enjoyable and rewarding.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her message resonated strongly with the students, who are currently making important decisions about their educational futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Educational Visits as an Investment in Students' Futures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n For SMA IT Al Azhar Jambi, the visit to UGM is more than an annual programme. It is regarded as a long-term investment in inspiring students and helping them develop a clear vision for their future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Principal Rina Norfida explained that the primary objective of the visit was to broaden students' horizons by allowing them to experience the university environment firsthand and encouraging them to dream bigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"We came to UGM to broaden our students' horizons and introduce them to a university that may one day become part of their dreams. We hope that some of our students will eventually have the opportunity to study here.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n She also acknowledged that, to date, no graduate from SMA IT Al Azhar Jambi has been admitted to UGM. However, rather than viewing this as a setback, the school considers it motivation to continue improving the quality of its graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \"Our alumni have gone on to universities in Java, but none has yet been admitted to UGM.
