This is FKG UGM\u2019s achievement in 2026, having officially inaugurated three new professors: Prof. Dr. drg. Archadian Nuryanti, M.Kes., Prof. Dr. drg. Dyah Irnawati, M.S., and Prof. Dr. drg. Julita Hendrartini, M.Kes., FISDPH., FISPD. With their respective fields of expertise, the presence of these three new professors strengthens the \u201cscientific signal\u201d of FKG UGM. The faculty now officially records a total of 22 active professors.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever we hear the word \u201cprofessor,\u201d our minds automatically associate it with the highest academic rank in higher education\u2014one closely linked to <em>scientific authority<\/em>, <em>senior academic status<\/em> , and a social prestige deeply recognized in Indonesian society. An academic paper by Michael Clasquin-Johnson from the <em>University of South Africa<\/em> , published on <em>ResearchGate<\/em> in October 2014, explained that the term \u201cprofessor\u201d originally derived from the phrase \u201cto profess,\u201d meaning \u201cto declare\u201d or \u201cto confess,\u201d particularly within religious contexts. The term was commonly used during the 14th\u201315th centuries in medieval Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As time progressed, according to the <em>Merriam-Webster<\/em>dictionary, the meaning of \u201cprofessor\u201d expanded into the domain of science and scholarship. In Michael Clasquin-Johnson\u2019s study, he explained that in the modern era, the title of professor carries varying stereotypes and academic meanings across the world. A professor is not merely a career level, but someone deeply integrated with the essence of research and learning. For Clasquin, professors are not only active in research and teaching, but must consistently engage in scholarly pursuits throughout their lives. On the other hand, professors are also expected to write newspaper articles, books for the general public, answer questions related to their expertise during public events, and ground their knowledge within society so that it becomes truly integrated <em>(nyawiji)<\/em> with the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bruce Macfarlane, author of the book\u00a0<em>Intellectual Leadership in Higher Education<\/em>, described \u201cprofessor\u201d as \u201can elusive term.\u201d In the United Kingdom, the term holds a very different meaning compared to North America. In North America, \u201cprofessor\u201d is a general label applied to\u00a0<em>all<\/em>\u00a0 academics employed to conduct research and teach at universities. In the UK, much of Europe, Australia, Asia, and South Africa, however, \u201cprofessorship\u201d signifies distinction: a professor is someone promoted to the highest academic level, usually based on scientific achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;So, how are professors in Indonesia doing today?\nIt is a major question\u2014and certainly an ongoing challenge for Indonesia\u2019s academic landscape, which continues to grow, evolve, and improve itself in preserving the dignity and authority of Indonesian academia.\nThis time, FKG UGM answered that challenge through the inauguration of its three new professors on April 7, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"752\" height=\"500\" data-id=\"17817\" src=\"https:\/\/fkg.ugm.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2026\/04\/image-11.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17817\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fkg.ugm.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2026\/04\/image-11.jpeg 752w, https:\/\/fkg.ugm.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2026\/04\/image-11-300x199.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/fkg.ugm.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/30\/2026\/04\/image-11-18x12.jpeg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For FKG UGM, the presence of these three new professors\u2014Prof. Dr. drg. Archadian Nuryanti, M.Kes., Prof. Dr. drg. Dyah Irnawati, M.S., and Prof. Dr. drg. Julita Hendrartini, M.Kes., FISDPH., FISPD.\u2014brings a renewed spirit to the campus environment.
