The Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), through its Integrated Research Laboratory (Laboratorium Riset Terpadu\/LRT), introduced a range of research facilities and services to postgraduate students. Dr. drg. Anne Handrini Dewi, M.Kes., Head of the LRT, presented an overview of the laboratory resources available to support dental research during an Academic Support Activity held on November 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Anne explained that the FKG UGM Research Laboratory provides five main testing services designed to comprehensively support research needs, including physiomechanical testing, microbiology, physicochemical analysis, molecular biology, and histology. Each service is equipped with advanced technology, most of which has been accredited by the National Accreditation Committee (KAN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStudents may use these facilities independently or submit samples to be handled by supervisors and laboratory technicians,\u201d she explained. This flexible working model allows students to focus on analytical processes without being constrained by technical testing procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the laboratory\u2019s key strengths is its Bioprinter, the only one of its kind in Southeast Asia. This device is used to print 3D cell-containing membranes, opening significant opportunities for regenerative research in dentistry. Another major innovation is Laser Speckles, which is used to monitor wound healing processes in vivo by measuring angiogenesis or new blood vessel formation in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the Research Laboratory is equipped with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) capable of producing high-resolution microstructural images, which are highly valuable for scientific documentation and publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the session, Dr. Anne also emphasized the importance of Ethical Clearance (EC) as a prerequisite for conducting research and using laboratory facilities. The EC application process typically requires approximately two to three months and should therefore be prepared well in advance. \u201cThrough EC, we aim to ensure that all research activities are conducted ethically and responsibly toward both research subjects and outcomes,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the facilities available at the FKG UGM Research Laboratory, it is hoped that students will be better supported in their research endeavors, leading to high-quality and impactful scientific outputs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
