Research conducted by UGM Faculty of Dentistry student Dwi Atikah Sari, supervised by drg. Erwan Sugiatno, M.S., Sp.Pros.(K)., Ph.D. and Prof. Dr. drg. Haryo Mustiko Dipoyono, MS, Sp.Pros.(K), titled \u201cDifferences in Vertical Dimension of Occlusion Measurements Between Men and Women Using Willis Method, Ear Length, and Eye-to-Ear Distance\u201d, found that vertical dimension measurements vary between men and women. This highlights the importance of individualized adjustments in determining proper occlusal dimensions to ensure optimal and balanced denture function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Occlusal balance refers to the position where the upper and lower teeth contact harmoniously during chewing or at rest. Disruption of this balance may lead to various problems, such as muscle pain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and uneven denture wear. Therefore, precise occlusal adjustments are essential in both full and partial denture fabrication to ensure even pressure distribution and minimize long-term complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Beyond physiological aspects, occlusal balance also affects patients\u2019 psychological well-being and comfort. Well-balanced and comfortable dentures can improve self-confidence, speech function, and chewing ability.
