Yogyakarta, 13 August 2024<\/strong> \u2013 Putri Raisah, a Doctoral Program student from the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM), recently passed her comprehensive exam. During this occasion, she announced her plan to develop a digital technology solution to assist special needs students in understanding dental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putri Raisah explained that the digital technology she is developing aims to provide a more engaging and accessible educational experience for students with special needs, including those with cognitive or sensory impairments. By utilizing this technology, students are expected to actively learn and improve their independent dental care skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This digital technology is designed as a training tool for educators and medical professionals, helping them deliver more effective education to special needs students. The project has received full support from various stakeholders, including experts in special education and health technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putri Raisah is guided by a supervisory team consisting of Drg. Rosa Amalia, M.Kes., Ph.D as the main supervisor, along with two co-supervisors, Dr. Eng. Igy Ardiyanto, S.T., M.Eng and Dr. Dr. Lientje Setyawati Maurits, M.S., Sp.Ok, who are contributing to the development of this digital technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This technology will be tested in several special education schools to assess its effectiveness in improving students' understanding of dental care and oral hygiene. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), by advancing education in developing countries and enhancing healthcare capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putri emphasized the importance of inclusive education, stating that every child, regardless of their abilities, has the right to access quality education and health information. Integrating digital technology in this context is expected to bridge the gap in understanding and skills among special needs students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project also aims to empower teachers and healthcare providers by equipping them with innovative tools that facilitate better learning outcomes. By improving their capacity to teach and interact with students, this initiative seeks to create a more inclusive educational environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond improving educational outcomes, the project has the potential to raise awareness about dental health among special needs students and their families. By providing accessible information and training, the project aims to cultivate a proactive approach to dental care and oral hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As this project progresses, Putri Raisah and her team remain optimistic about its positive impact on the lives of special needs students. They believe that with the right tools and support, these students can achieve greater independence and confidence in managing their dental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
