On this occasion, Prof. drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M.Kes., Ph.D., delivered a lecture on \"Interdisciplinary Collaboration to Support the Biomedical Industry and Dental Services in Indonesia.\"&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Ika highlighted the importance of collaboration in biomedical technology development to address challenges such as high capital requirements, advanced technology, and the need for skilled human resources. Her presentation was attended by students, dentists, nurses, and dental practitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During her talk, she shared her experience in developing automated biomedical membranes used in regenerative treatments. This innovation resulted from a collaboration with the Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) and Sam Ratulangi University, funded through the Rispro LPDP program (2016\u20132018) and the Kedaireka Matching Fund Program (2022\u20132023).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, she elaborated on the potential of nanotechnology in dentistry, particularly in developing diagnostic tools and vaccine adjuvants that accelerate innovation in oral cancer treatment and infection control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"The biomedical industry is highly <em>capital-intensive.<\/em> Significant investment is required for technology development and production. Sterilization technology, laboratory facilities, and production areas must meet international standards. As students or researchers, we cannot work alone. We must always be ready to collaborate,\" Prof. Ika emphasized, underscoring the importance of synergy with industry partners and healthcare institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also mentioned potential collaborations with local companies such as Dermama and Sparta Medical in France, which could serve as internship opportunities for students to learn about stem cell technology and medical devices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Q&amp;A session, a student named Faris inquired about the challenges of biomedical research. In response, Prof. Ika stated that successful innovation requires industrial involvement and full institutional support. \"Beyond being <em>capital-intensive<\/em>, the biomedical industry is also <em>technology-intensive<\/em>, requiring continuous innovation and substantial funding. It is also human resource-intensive, demanding highly skilled, well-trained, and innovative personnel. These are the key challenges in biomedical innovation,\" she explained.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seminar provided valuable insights to participants, highlighting the role of collaboration in addressing challenges in the biomedical industry.
