This study explores the potential of pineapple leaf fibers as a reinforcement material for heat-cured acrylic resin dentures. The research, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/fkg.ugm.ac.id\/id\/organisasi-fakultas\/prof-dr-drg-siti-sunarintyas\/\">Prof. Dr. drg. Siti Sunarintyas, M.Kes.,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fkg.ugm.ac.id\/id\/organisasi-fakultas\/prof-dr-drg-widjijono\/\">Prof. Dr. drg. Widjijono, S.U.<\/a>, also involves students from the same program, including drg. Ainin Nafilatus Soumil Fitriyah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this study, pineapple leaf fibers <em>(Ananas comosus)<\/em> from Ngancar, Kediri, were explored to enhance the mechanical strength of heat-cured acrylic resin dentures. \"Pineapple leaf fibers have significant potential to strengthen heat-cured acrylic resin dentures,\" said Prof. Siti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, their potential is limited by the hydrophilic properties of the fibers. She added, \"Therefore, further research is needed to determine the optimal amount of pineapple leaf fibers that can enhance the mechanical properties of acrylic resin while minimizing water absorption.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research aligns with the scientific vision of the Master\u2019s Program in Dental Science at FKG UGM, particularly in the fields of material reinforcement, gerontology, and dental health prevention. Additionally, this project is part of a collaboration with the Kediri Institute of Health Sciences (IIK), aimed at creating sustainable solutions by utilizing local natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are closely related to this research, including SDG 3, supporting good health and well-being, SDG 9 with its innovation in health, SDG 12 for the sustainable use of natural resources, and SDG 15, which focuses on the conservation of land ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With promising potential, this research hopes to offer an alternative for strengthening denture materials that are not only effective but also environmentally friendly, thus opening new paths in the development of high-quality dental materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Authors: Ainin Nafilatus Soumil Fitriyah, Tryanindita, Pram<\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yogyakarta, 31 Oktober 2024 \u2013 Program Studi Magister Ilmu Kedokteran Gigi (IKG) Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) kembali melakukan penelitian.
