Through Community Service activities, the Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FKG UGM) is committed to being present in the community to provide dental health education and services. FKG UGM organized a community service (PM) event at Samara Bunda Special Needs School (SLB), Yogyakarta, last Thursday (18\/07).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the theme of \"Appropriate Technology for Inclusion of Children with Special Needs,\" this event was initiated by the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at FKG UGM in collaboration with the Faculty of Psychology UGM, Directorate of Community Service UGM, SLB Samara Bunda, \"Gigi Kecil\" Application, YES Alumni, and Dental YK Kids Clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This event included free dental and oral examinations, dental and oral health education for children with special needs, counseling sessions by the UGM Faculty of Psychology team, educational games, and the distribution of educational dental souvenir <\/em>. Prior to this event, apre-event<\/em>agenda was held on June 21 by the team of dental resident students from the 2021 batch of the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The community service activity at SLB Samara Bunda represents FKG UGM's commitment to improving the oral and dental health of Indonesian communities, particularly through inclusive community service that integrates the roles of parents, teachers, and children with special needs using appropriate technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The event began with dental and oral examinations to assess the initial health condition of the students' teeth and mouths before treatment. The examination results were then compiled into a data summary of the students' dental and oral health problems, which would later be used by dentists to develop comprehensive and efficient treatment plans.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis activity provides an opportunity for students in the Pediatric Dentistry Specialist Program to understand pediatric dental problems, especially among individuals with special needs in the field, so that solutions can be developed for existing dental issues,\u201d said Dr. drg. Indra Bramanti, Sp.KGA (K), M.Sc, the head of the pediatric dentistry department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the other hand, there was also support for parents and teachers who play a crucial role in ensuring the success of dental care for children with special needs both at home and in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Considering the significant benefits, it is hoped that this program will be sustainable.
